Did the Prophet ﷺ make dua to reach Ramadan?

Question:

Is this Hadith authentic?

 كَانَ رَسُول اللَّه ﷺ إِذَا دخل رَجَبٍ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي رَجَبٍ وَشَعْبَانَ وَبَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَانَ

Answer:

This narration is transmitted through Za’idah bin Abi al-Ruqqaad, the controversial focal point of this isnad. Hadith critics of the highest calibre including Imams al-Bukhari, al-Nasa’i and Abu Hatim al-Razi have declared Za’idah as munkar al-hadith (a denounced narrator of irregular reports).

Additionally, uncertainty surrounds Za’idah’s supposed teacher Ziyad al-Numayri. Scholars like Ibn Hibban, Yahya bin Ma’een and Abu Hatim agree that Ziyad is unfit as an authoritative source. Ibn Ma’een bluntly states he is worthless. Hence, both central transmitters in this chain suffer severe credibility issues leading hadith masters to grade this text as unreliable.
